Somalia

I may sound like a broken record,
but every time I hear a news story about this situation in Somalia,
I get more upset and desperate about the need
to try to help.

Silly me.

You may think that each of us,
individually,
cannot do much about this,
but I tend to feel that if each of us,
individually,
donated whatever funds or talents we could afford,
we could, together, make a difference.

I just sent a donation to the International Rescue Committee,
that has placed doctors and other workers
in refugee camps in Mogadishu.

Here is a list of other U.S.-based aid organizations.

If you're not in the U.S.A.,
just do a quick Google search
on "Aid to Somalia"
and I'm sure you'll surely find an organization
in your home country.

I'm not kidding.

There's always the good old standbys like the Red Cross and Unicef. They'll be in there working too.

Yes, I agree Debra. But I had heard that Al Shahab (some militant group that I think has a connection with Al Quaida) is not letting some aid agencies in, if they felt that those agencies had other political agendas. I found out for certain that the International Rescue Committee is in Somalia now, and that's why I went with them. But I'm sure all of these agencies, whether they can get into the country now or not, will be sending a presence and aid in some form as soon as they can.

it's so sad...ALL so sad...seems like each time you turn the news on you hear about devastation, death, cruelty...
and then when we 'help'...we find out later that the 'leader' of some of the countries we've helped...have decided their people don't deserve the assistance...and so they TAKE it all for themselves...or just not let the assistance in in the first place!

it's really disgusting...how people around the world are treated...
