This Ol' Orchid Plant

This past August,
I was quite obsessed by my orchids,
which hadn't bloomed in two years.

If you were following this humble blog back then,
you will remember pictures like this:

Well,
those lovely blossoms went the way
of all orchid blossoms:
they withered and fell.

But I was quite satisfied.

I expected the stalk from which they sprouted to do the same thing,
and I waited for that.

But that dear stalk remained
quite viable.

In fact,
here it is:

I paid very little heed to it, figuring it would disappear in time,
but instead,
it sprouted another branch,

and now it appears to me
that once again,
this ol' orchid plant
will bloom again:

Stay tuned!
I expect this will really begin to blossom
about the same time that

spring arrives.

Happy day to you --

Six

As you may recall,
in the Old Testament,
it took God six days
to create everything
(and on the seventh, S/he rested).

In numerology,
Six is the number of marriage, motherhood and harmony --
it stands for balance and equilibrium.

And I
finally
have six orchids!

Complete!

Now I rest.

Four, maybe Five

I was happy with three,

for three is a number
of good fortune, magic,
and harmony,
not to mention the divine.

But then came number four

and my delight was complete.

Four is a number of stability,
of foundations,
and integrity.

Four there are of
seasons,
winds,
elements,
and phases of the moon.

I was happy with four.

But now it appears
there may be five --

an odd number, five --
a slight off balancing,
but also a change of course,
a striving for the upper numbers,
and in the case of this twig,
the perfect number
will be six.

But for now, I await number five's completion
and continue to marvel.

grand opening

one open . . .

two . . . .

three. . .

will there be more?
I'm happy just to see the three
after two long years of drought.

Even in the most dry times,
with some of the rarer creatures,

there is hope.

Ode To An Orchid, Long Anticipated

From out your tangled, tormented weave
of roots, I have wondered,
           will I see a bloom
                             again?

One year, two years,
              watering there,
            watching for
                              a different shoot
among the roots
              that clutch
                 and cramp
                        your tiny home
              of earth.
My friend --

I recognized the singular sprout
                   a tad too late
                            to keep it straight,
                      but there it is
patience brings
                                     a cluster of blossoms,
                             ready to burst --
but I must extend
                       my waiting state,
                      amazed, though
at your regenerate
                  condition --
my heart, too
                     wells with you
